Betty Faye Adams, 84, of Greenville

GREENVILLE, KY., Betty Faye Adams, 84, of Greenville passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital surrounded by her family. Mrs. Adams was born in Greenville on February 2, 1938 to Fred and Flora Crick Moore. She retired from Audubon Area Head Start after 19 years of loving and teaching hundreds of children, many of whom she reconnected with on Facebook years later. Her greatest joys in life were her kids, grandkids, her dog Dusty, and talking on the phone with her church friends. Betty was a member of Roland Memorial Baptist Church.


She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Elmer Adams, sisters Nona Mae Ford and Louise Underwood, brother Rufus Moore, and her great-granddaughter Summer Nell Bratcher.


She is survived by her son Alvin (Donna Coakley) Adams of Sacramento, her daughter Tami (Wayne) Hardison of Greenville, 2 granddaughters Megan (Jessy Bratcher) Vincent and Macy (Nathan Tabor) Vincent, 1 grandson Ethan Edwards, 2 great grandchildren Maxton Tabor and Eliana Bratcher, numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends who were like family.


Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 from 10:00 AM until time of service at Gary’s 

Funeral Home in Greenville, KY.


Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville officiated by Rev. Danny Mooneyhan. Burial will follow in Carter Creek Cemetery in Greenville. 

Darryl Wade “Big Dog” McIntosh, 63, of Greenville

Greenville, KY., Darryl Wade “Big Dog” McIntosh, 63, of Greenville passed away on January 5, 2023 at Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. He was born on October 24, 1959 in Greenville the son of the late Freeman McIntosh and Ruby Nell Sears McIntosh. He was a substance abuse counselor for 35 years and he loved people and his family. 

He enjoyed playing keyboard, and his piano playing touched many people, as he played for churches and at home.


He is survived by his wife of 37 years Gail McIntosh, 2 sons Doug Nantz and Tommy (Barbara) Nantz, 1 daughter Melissa (Darren) Webster, 5 grandsons Bailey Morris, Zach Morris, Tristen Nantz, Dylan Nantz, and Caden Nantz, 2 great grandsons Wyatt and Kieran, 1 great granddaughter Everly, 1 brother Jeff (Christy) McIntosh, and 1 nephew Brandon McIntosh.


There will be no visitation.


Services will be private. Gary’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Donna Mae Simmons, 81, of Greenville

GREENVILLE, KY., Donna Mae Simmons, 81, of Greenville passed away on December 31, 2022 at Wellington Parc Health in Owensboro. She was born in Breckinridge County on November 14, 1941 the daughter of Amiel and Lorean Phillips. She was a member of Roland Memorial Baptist Church and loved singing in the choir. She and her husband the late Norvill Simmons were married for 56 years. She was the co-owner of Donna and Linda’s Boutique and retired from the Greenville City Clerk’s office. 


She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother Dan Phillips, and her sister Wilma Richerson.


She is survived by her children David (Tracy) Simmons of Chapel Hill, TN., Larry (Vickie) Simmons of Greenville, Penny Simmons of Greenville, 3 grandsons Drew (Kristen) Simmons, Nathan (Taylor) Simmons, Dylan Simmons, 3 great grandsons Finn Simmons, Baby Boy Simmons due spring 2023, and Conner Simmons, 2 brothers George (Jeanne) Phillips of Fordsville, Mike Phillips of Greenville, sister-in-law Nancy (Bob) Wilson of Hartford, several nieces and nephews, special caregivers Joyce Thompson, Tracey Martino, Jenny Browning, and Linda McCormick.


Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2022 after 11:00 until time of service at Gary’s 

Funeral Home.


Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville officiated by Bro. Carl Nelson assisted by Bro. Danny Mooneyhan. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.  

Steven Bolton, 65, of Central City

CENTRAL CITY, KY., Steven Bolton, 65, of Central City passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. He was born in Greenville, KY on March 26, 1957 the son of the late Hubert Bolton and Lucille Sallee Bolton. He worked for many years at Central City Produce and had attended Living Word Church.


He is survived by 1 daughter Kimberly (Benjamin) Duvall of Sacramento, 5 grandchildren, 2 sisters Dorothy Snider of Okeechobee, FL and Maybell Stallings of Owensboro, 1 half-brother J.P. (Mary) Vincent of Murray.


There will be no visitation.


Services will be private.

Carl Junior Jones, 78, of Madisonville

MADISONVILLE, KY., Carl Junior Jones, 78, of Madisonville passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at his residence. He was born in Muhlenberg County on August 14, 1944 the son of the late Rhea Jones and Ethel Rhoads Jones. In Carl’s younger years he loved deer and turkey hunting. He loved watching old westerns, and his favorite show was Gunsmoke. He loved spending time on the river with his brother, nieces, and nephews. He loved pulling jokes on his family by waking them up in the middle of the night after working a long shift at the steel mill. He has left us with funny stories that will be passed down for years to come things we will never forget. Carl worked as a steel mill worker from 1976 - 1997 when he retired and returned home to Kentucky where he was raised. He will be very missed by all our family until we meet him again. 


He was preceded in death by 2 brothers Harold Jones and Harlan Jones and a sister Dorothy Jones Gossett. 


He is survived by his only brother Jerry W. Jones, a sister-in-law Doris Jackson Jones.


He never married or had children but was blessed with an abundance of nieces and nephews Jerriann (Jones) and Arlie Griffin, Danny Jones, Terry and Leah (Greer) Jones, Mike and Nancy Jones, Connie (Jones) and Rick Brewster, Steve Gossett, Eric Gossett, Rick and Debbie (Morton) Gossett, many more great nieces and nephews.


Visitation will be on Saturday, December 31, 2022 at Gary’s Funeral Home from 11:00 until time of funeral.

Jane Skipworth, 82, of Greenville

Greenville, KY., Jane Skipworth, 82, of Greenville passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2022 in Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born on November 5, 1940 in Muhlenberg County the daughter of Shelby Lee Jones and Nettie Middleton Jones. She was a housewife and homemaker and a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a member of Joines Chapel General Baptist Church and Todd County Gideon Camp Auxiliary. 


She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers Lyndell C. Jones, Clifton Jones, Brank Jones, and Freddie Leon Jones, 4 sisters Margaret McIntosh, Lee Pickering, Willodean Brooks, and Ethylene Jones. 


She is survived by her husband of 63 years Frankie Lee Skipworth, Sr. of Greenville, a daughter Patty Skipworth of Clifty, 2 sons Timmy (Kim) Skipworth, Sr. of Weir and Frankie Lee (Misty) Skipworth. Jr. of Morgantown 10 grandchildren Mark (Mary) Skipworth, Jenny (Jeremy) Heltsley, Allie (Josh) Daughtery, Jacob (Kadi) Skipworth, Timmy (Sam) Skipworth Jr., Cara (Ty) McDaniel, Emily Skipworth, Tyler Skipworth, Harmony Skipworth, and Anthony Skipworth, 1 foster grandchild Christian Embry, 9 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, 2 brothers C.W. (Wynona) Jones of Hopkinsville, and Wayne (Carolyn) Jones of Edwardsville, IL., 2 sisters Sue Nell (Wayburn) Costello of Greenville and Barbara Richards of Clifty.

Doris Jane Cartmill Phillips, 81, of Greenville

GREENVILLE, KY., Doris Jane Cartmill Phillips, 81, of Greenville passed away on December 14, 2022 at Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. She was born in Hart County near Munfordville, KY on November 18, 1941 the daughter of Levi Adair Cartmill and Lucy Emma Franklin Cartmill. She was a case manager for Human Resources in Muhlenberg County. She had many friends and family, was in the DAR, and researched her own family history back through the Revolutionary War. 


She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband William Scott Phillips.


She is survived by a son Scott Phillips of Greenville, a daughter Kim (Michael) Mayhall of Longview, TX., 5 grandchildren Kayleigh (Kevin) O’Connor, Jacob (Justine) Mayhall, Ashlyn (Chris) Hayes, Brendon (Holly) Mayhall, and Azura Mayhall, 3 great grandchildren Riley Hayes, Trystn Mayhall, and Finn O’Connor, a brother Robert Adair (Sarah) Cartmill of Winder, GA.

Deborah “Debby” K. Boren, 68, of Greenville

GREENVILLE, KY., Deborah “Debby” K. Boren, 68, of Greenville passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Atrium Hospice House in Monroe, North Carolina. She was born in Louisville, KY on December 20, 1953 the daughter of Ernest Thomas Jackson and Anita Webb Jackson. She was a telephone pole lineman for Bell South, a championship soccer coach, a Cub Scout leader, retiree from the bus garage, and a Harley rider. She was always up for a game of Bingo, and she loved her dog Nila. Mrs. Boren was a member of Mercy Hill Church. 


She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Stephen James Boren. 


She is survived by 3 sons Joseph G. “Joey” (Susan) Dotson of Myrtle Beach, SC., Daniel Thomas (Casey) Boren of Bowling Green, and James Keith Boren of Northwest, AK., 1 daughter Stacy Rhea (John) Boren-Brackett of Greenville, 9 grandchildren Caisey Joelle (Benjamin “Ben”) Hutto, Bradley Dotson, Addison Dotson, Damian (Emily) Dotson, John-Michael Boren, Jace Boren, Ashley (Blake) Smith, Dakota Gregory, and Graci Gregory, 2 great grandchildren Chrislyn Gregory and Camreigh Browning, 2 sisters Linda Grue and Karen (William “Bill”) Barnett, 1 brother James “Jimmy” (Diane) Foster.

Belinda Faye Meacham, 58, of Pembroke

PEMBROKE, KY., Belinda Faye Meacham, 58, of Pembroke passed away on December 14, 2022 at Christian Heights Nursing and Rehabitlitaation in Pembroke. She was born on December 20, 1963 the daughter of the late William “Bill” Moertl and Martha Ann Doss Moertl. She was a CNA working at many local nursing homes. She was of the Baptist faith.


She is survived by her mother Martha Ann Doss Moertl of Greenville, 1 daughter Shannon (Austin) Wyatt of Hopkinsville, 1 son Keith (Cagney) Meacham of Pembroke, 4 grandchildren, 2 brothers William Moertl III of Greenville, and Christopher Moertl of Greenville.


Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 18, 2022 from 12:00 PM until 1:30 PM at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville, KY.

Bro. Grover Cleveland Gibson, 99, of Morton’s Gap

MORTON’S GAP, KY., Bro. Grover Cleveland Gibson, 99, of Morton’s Gap passed away on Monday, December 12, 2022 at Ridgewood Terrace Nursing Home in Madisonville, KY. Mr. Gibson was born on August 15, 1923 in Hopkins County the son of Luther Powell Gibson and Blanche Mae Burden Gibson. He was a Pentecostal pastor and was a coal miner.


He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Clara Sneed Gibson, his second wife Rachel Pearl Gibson, 5 brothers and sisters Luther Powell Gibson, Jr., John Gibson, Freda Gibson, Wanda Gibson Williams, and Frances Guanella.

DRAKESBORO, KY., Virdie Marie Wells, 94, of Drakesboro passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at her home after a short illness. She was born in Muhlenberg County on January 11, 1928, the daughter of Jessie Mayes and Mossie Joines Mayes. She was a housewife and a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening and caring for her children and grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 son Johnny Wells Jr., 4 daughters Louise Paige, Josephine Hope, Ruby Jean Wells, and Kathryn Juanita Wells, 4 brothers Henry Mayes, Jay Mayes, Georgie Mayes, and Frankie Mayes, and 1 sister Becky Colonial. 


She is survived by three daughters Marie “Cotton” Wells of Drakesboro, Linda (Jerry) Boggess of Bremen, Krystal (Michael) Music of Drakesboro, 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 2 sisters Barbara Stanley of Paducah and Magdalene Curtis of Gary, IN.

Wayne Taylor Shelton, 83, of Owensboro

OWENSBORO, KY., Wayne Taylor Shelton, 83, of Owensboro passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at Heartford House in Owensboro. He was born in Greenville, KY on October 13, 1939, the son of Finis Oliver Shelton and Nellie Taylor Shelton. He was a maintenance foreman and retired from Commonwealth Aluminum in 1991 after 25 years. He loved to fish and restore old cars. He was an accomplished guitar player and was a member of the Thumbpickers’ Hall of Fame. 


He was preceded in death by his parents and 9 brothers and sisters.


He is survived by 2 sons Tony (Dessie) Shelton of Lewisport, Terry Wayne Shelton of Fordsville, 1 daughter Linda Talley of Nashville, TN., 5 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter. 


Visitation will be on Monday, December 12, 2022 from 10:00 AM until time of funeral at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville.

Hilda Dean Hale, 84, of Greenville

GREENVILLE, KY., Hilda Dean Hale, 84, of Greenville passed away on Monday, November 28, 2022 at Maple Health and Rehabilitation in Greenville. She was born in Muhlenberg County on November 14, 1938 the daughter of Cecil Wright and Anna Spears Wright. She and her husband founded J & H Tasty Bakery in Greenville in 1982 and owned it for 35 years. She was a member of Luzerne General Baptist Church and was the oldest living member. She loved her church, served there as secretary-treasurer for 40 years and sang in the church choir. As a member of the Wright Family, she participated in making several recordings. 


Mrs. Hale was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Edith Lyons, and 2 brothers Donald Wright and Jerry Wright.


She is survived by her husband of 56 years Jerry Joe Hale of Greenville, 1 daughter Susan Hale of Greenville, 2 sons Alan (Jenni) Hale of Greenville and Timothy (Malinda) Hale of Central City, 8 grandchildren Jessy (Adam Lamb) Blanchard, Kristin Katze, Austin Hale, Addie Jo Hale, Bailee (Josh) Scott, Macey Hale, Carter Hale, and Courtney Hale, 1 great-granddaughter Keira Hale, 1 brother Roger (Becky) Wright of Greenville, 2 sisters Carolyn (Ralph) Merrow of Rockport, Pat Bullock of Fairfield, OH.


Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Luzerne General Baptist Church in Greenville and from 9:00 AM until time of service on Thursday, December 1.

Calvin Ray Reeves 97, of Greenville

Greenville, KY., Calvin Ray Reeves 97, of Greenville passed away on Friday November 25, 2022 at the Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson. He was born in Muhlenberg County on June 22, 1925, the son of Charles Roscoe Reeves and Ruth Browning Reeves. He was a member of Vernal Grove Baptist Church. He was a school bus driver for the Muhlenberg County Board of Education and was a farmer all of his life.


He was an Army veteran serving in World War II.


He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Jimmy Reeves, a daughter Wanda O’Neal, a brother Roscoe Reeves, and 3 sisters Anna Bell Majors, Immogene Maggard, and Eva Mae Reeves.


He is survived by a daughter Doris (Ray) Scott of Greenville, 2 sons Joe (Sue) Reeves of Beulah and Marion “Peanut” (Susan) Reeves of Hanson, 6 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren.


Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 from 10:00 AM until time of service at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville.


Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville with Rev. Barry Noe officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Vernal Grove Church Cemetery.

Beverly Wayne “Buddy” Johnson, 85, of Greenville

GREENVILLE, KY., Beverly Wayne “Buddy” Johnson, 85, of Greenville passed away on Monday, November 21, 2022 at Maple Health and Rehabilitation. He was born in Muhlenberg County on September 26, 1937 the son of Winfield Scott Johnson and Evelyn Fitzhugh Johnson. He was an Army veteran and was a member of Carter Creek Missionary Baptist Church. He retired from TVA as a machinist in 2001. He was a UK basketball fan, a loving husband, father, and grandfather.


He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Charlesann Johnson.


He is survived by his wife of 61 years Beverly Ann Johnson of Greenville, 2 daughters Sheryl (Alan) Turpen of Florence, AL and Shannon (Jeff) Grundy of Greenville, 3 grandchildren Allyson Farris, Benjamin (Liz) Turpen, and Karsyn Grundy, 1 great-granddaughter Isla Ruth Farris, 1 brother Mike (Rita) Johnson of Central City.


Visitation will be held on Friday, November 25, 2022 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville and after 9:00 AM on Saturday until time of funeral.

Bernadean Thomas, 77, of Greenville

Greenville, KY., Bernadean Thomas, 77, of Greenville passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital. She was born in Todd County KY on September 10, 1945 the daughter of Bernard Allison and Ora Lee Sullivan Allison. She was a member of Jernigan’s Chapel Church and she was a beautician for many years at Town and Country Beauty Shop in Greenville.


She was preceded in death by her parents and 3 sisters Regina Locke, Alictine Lee, and Wilma Freels.


She is survived by her husband Larry Thomas of Greenville, 3 sisters Margaret (Paul) Johnson of Greenville, Wanda (Bill) Armstrong of Henderson, and Brona Hendrix of Lexington, several nieces and nephews. 


Visitation will be private.

Linda Faye Lile, 80, of Greenville

GREENVILLE, KY., Linda Faye Lile, 80, of Greenville passed away on November 17, 2022 at Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital. She was born on July 14, 1942 and was a life-long resident of Greenville, her forever home. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Burke Fox and Reva Crick Fox. She was an educator, teaching English and grammar in the Muhlenberg County School System for 31 years and retiring in 1996. She was a graduate of Greenville High School and completed a bachelor’s and master’s degree and Rank 1 accreditation from Western Kentucky University. Faye was a licensed realtor and worked for Eaves Realty for many years, listed as top salesperson numerous times. She along with her parents and sister was a developer of the Foxboro area a great addition to the community. Her interests included playing Duplicate Bridge, needlework, and the care of her pets, always assisting stray animals and wildlife. She was a member of Greenville First Baptist Church.


She is survived by 2 sons Joseph Brett Lile and John Fox Lile, a devoted companion of 17 years Mike Young, a granddaughter Sara (Jason) Young, a great-granddaughter Xoie Young, a sister Sue Fox Walters, a nephew Wade Walters, and a niece Alexandra Walters Ebling.


There will be no visitation.


Graveside services will be held on Sunday, November 20, 2022 at 2:00 PM in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville, conducted by Rev. John Galyen. Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville is in charge of arrangements.

Howard Lee Williams, 90, of Greenville

GREENVILLE, KY., Howard Lee Williams, 90, of Greenville passed away on Friday, November 18, 2022 at his residence. He was born in Muhlenberg County, KY on June 20, 1932 the son of Eura Glenn Williams and Katie Elkins Williams. Mr. Williams served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked for 20 years for Lester Motors in tractor parts sales, and he was a member of Greens Chapel General Baptist Church.  


He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 57 years Fonnie Lou Williams, and a son Keith Allen Williams.


He is survived by 2 sons Rickie (Beverly) Williams of Greenville and Timmy (Debbye) Williams of Greenville, 1 daughter Lisa (Terry) Stewart of Bremen, 7 grandchildren Jarred (Kelly) Williams of Greenville, Christopher Scott Williams of Owensboro, Mindy (Shane) Hardison of Greenville, Amanda (Thomas) Shanks of Central City, Daniel (Jessica) Williams of Owensboro, Amy (Mark Spain) Stewart of Owensboro, and Ryan Williams of Greenville, 10 great-grandchildren Ean Hardison, Stetson Williams, Jesse Williams, Greyson Williams, Gabrielle Williams, Eleanor Williams, Carver Williams, Maisie Hardison, Luka Hardison, and Brooklyn Williams, 1 sister Marjorie Clay of Central City, many nieces and nephews.


Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 beginning at 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Gary’s 

Funeral Home in Greenville.


Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville, KY, conducted by Rev. Jeremy Teague. Burial with military honors will follow in Greens Chapel Cemetery in Greenville, KY.
