GRAHAM, KY., — Dorothy Nell Whitaker Rose, 86, of Graham passed away of a broken heart on March 2, 2020. She was a member of Unity Baptist Church. Dorothy graduated from Brescia University with a degree in Special Education. She taught the first Special Education class at Graham School. She then started Special Education classes at Outwood State Hospital and the workshop there. One of her greatest accomplishments was starting the Muhlenberg County Opportunity Center where she was Executive Director for over 20 years. She left the position when her husband was transferred to Indiana with his work. When she returned to Kentucky, she began Rose’s Shop which she enjoyed until her health declined.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years Bob Rose, her parents Romie and Nellie Whitaker, her sisters Mary Blades and Mildred Rickard and her son-in-law Kenny Wright.
She is survived by her daughters Janet Wright of Graham, and Judy Rose of Graham, 3 grandchildren Venita Wright, Josh Wright, and Bobby Sailing, 9 great-grandchildren who she adored, 1 sister Margaret Wells of Newburgh, IN., 3 brothers Jimmy Whitaker of White Plains, Buddy (Martha) Whitaker of Nortonville, Bill (Carolyn) Whitaker of Depoy.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at 2pm at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville, KY conducted by Rev. Jerry Eades and Rev. John Bivins. Burial will follow in Unity Cemetery in Graham, KY.
Visitation will begin at 10am on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 until time of service at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville, KY.
