Larry Sparks, 82, of Greenville

Larry-SparksGREENVILLE, KY., — Larry Sparks, 82, of Greenville passed away Friday, July 5, 2019 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born in Earles, KY the son of Leonard Edge Sparks and Thelma Cash Sparks. He graduated from Greenville High School in 1955 and in 1954 held the record for most points scored in a regional game. He played basketball at Western Kentucky University under Coach Ed Diddle and played for Austin Peay State University. He played on the 1952 American Legion baseball team that was runner-up for state championship and played for the Central City Reds semi-pro team in 1957. He owned and operated Larry Sparks Motors for 55 years from 1964 to the present. He was a member of Greenville First Baptist Church for 67 years and was a member and treasurer of the Kingsmen Sunday School Class. He was a Kentucky Colonel.

Mr. Sparks was an Air Force Veteran of 1959 and 1960 stationed in San Antonio, Texas. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters Shirley Rowe and Judith King.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years Elaine N. Sparks of Greenville, 2 sons Nick (Suzanne) Sparks of Greenville and Dr. Brad (Denise) Sparks of Greenville, 6 grandchildren Erica (Trae) Henson, Dr. Lauren Sparks, Anne-Taylor (Aaron) Beck, Graham Sparks, Summer Sparks, C. J. Sparks, 2 great grandchildren Eli Henson and River Henson, 2 brothers David (Karen) Sparks of Lexington, KY and Tony Sparks of Madisonville, 1 sister Sue (Mike) Wheatley of Madisonville and a devoted employee of 47 years Marty Dortch.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 8, 2019 at 2pm at Greenville First Baptist Church in Greenville, KY with Rev. John Galyen officiating, assisted by A.D. Pollock and Eddie Browning.

Visitation with the family will be held on Monday, July 8, 2019 at Greenville First Baptist Church from 10am until 2pm.
