GREENVILLE, KY., — Freddie Leon Jones, 74, of Greenville passed away on Thursday morning March 21, 2019 at 8:35am at Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. He was formerly of Cleveland, TN where he lived and worked for 30 years. He was born on July 17, 1944 in Muhlenberg County the son of Shelby Lee Jones and Nettie Middleton Jones. He attended Trinity General Baptist Church in Tywappity, KY. He served in law enforcement in Charleston and Cleveland for 26 years as Deputy Sheriff and Chief of Police and retired from M M Mars on March 1997 where he worked for 30 years. He later retired from Cleveland State Community College on September 30, 2006 after serving for 10 years as Head of Security.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers Lyndel C, Clifton, Brank Jones, 4 sisters Margaret, Lee, Deanie, Ethylene, and an infant son Gary Leon Jones.
He is survived by his wife of 12 years Catherine Chandler Jones of Greenville, daughter Samantha (Mickey) Scott of Cleveland, TN., son Freddie Allen (Jessica) Jones of Elizabethtown, mother of Samantha and Allen Susan DePue of Greenville, 2 stepsons Michael (Robin) Settle of Lombard, IL., David (Marlene) Settle of Galesburg, IL., 4 grandchildren Kerstien Scott, Colton Scott, Dakota (Dariane) Jones, Zachariah Jones, 3 step-grandchildren Michael Settle, Jessica Settle, Joey (Beth) Lumino, 3 great grandchildren Tylan Hobbs, Madeline Scott, David Allen Jones, 3 step-great grandchildren Kaleb Lumino, Kylie Lumino, Kasen Lumino, 2 brothers C.W. (Wynona) Jones of Hopkinsville, Wayne (Carolyn) Jones of Edwardsville, IL., 3 sisters Sue Nell (Wayburn) Costello of Greenville, Janie (Frankie Lee) Skipworth of Greenville and Barbara Richards of Greenville, KY.
Funeral services will be held at Trinity General Baptist Church in Tywappity, KY on Monday, March 25, 2019 at 1pm with Rev. Roger Reynolds and Rev. Donald McGee officiating. Burial will follow in Greenbriar Church Cemetery in Greenville, KY.
Visitation will be on Sunday March 24, 2019 from 5pm until 8pm at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville, KY and after 11am at the church on Monday, March 25, 2019.
