Julie Thomson Hansen, 75, of Greenville

IMG 2600GREENVILLE, KY., — Julie Thomson Hansen, 75, of Greenville passed away Sunday, March 3, 2019 at Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital following a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Julie was born in Greenville to parents George and Jean (Taylor) Thomson. She began studying music at an early age. After graduating from Greenville High School, she attended Western Kentucky State Teachers College (now Western Kentucky University) where she earned Bachelor’s and Masters’ Degrees in Music Education. Julie taught music in the public-school systems of Greenville, West Louisville, and Louisville. She served for several years as a Homebound Teacher with the Muhlenberg County School System. Concurrently during this time, she also taught evening and weekend Music Appreciation classes for the Madisonville Community College. Later in her career, she served as a Title I Coordinator and Teacher’s Aide.  Julie was an active member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church where she served for 37 years as pianist. She also served in the positions of organist and choir director during her time with the church. Julie’s love for Greenville and Muhlenberg County was evident in how active she was in local organizations. She was a member of the Greenville Woman’s Club, Muhlenberg Arts Advisory Council, Class of ’61 Alumni, Girls of GHS (Greenville High School), Muhlenberg County Democrat Executive Committee, Friends of the Library, Cumberland Presbyterian Women, Muhlenberg County Retired Teachers Association, Alpha Iota Sorority, Muhlenberg County Chapter of the WKU Alumni Association, Muhlenberg Community Health Center (board member).

Julie was preceded in death by her daughter Sarah Hansen, her brother Scott Thomson, and her parents.

Julie is survived by her loving husband of 42 years Alan Hansen of Greenville and her

son Robert (Jennifer Hofer) Hansen of Bowling Green.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 7 at 2pm at the Greenville United Methodist Church in Greenville conducted by Rev. Arthur Burrows assisted by Rev. George Thompson with burial to follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville, KY.

Visitation will be on Thursday, March 7, 2019 from 11am until time of service at 2pm at the Greenville United Methodist Church in Greenville, KY.
