Walter E. Evitts, 84, of Greenville

EVITTS-WALTER-EDWARDGREENVILLE, KY., — Walter E. Evitts, 84, of Greenville passed away Thursday morning, February 21, 2019 at Maple Manor in Greenville, KY. He was born on July 21, 1934 in Muhlenberg County the son of George Edgar Evitts and Annie Brown Capps Evitts and was the 8 of 11 children.  He pastored Sacamore Chapel, New Hope, Union Chapel, Olive Grove, Corley Chapel, Plainview, Earlington, Luzerne, and Green’s Chapel Churches. He started preaching at 17 years old and retired at 72 years old. He was a member of Duvall’s Chapel General Baptist Church and officiated numerous funerals and weddings. His favorite Bible scripture was John 8:12. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and mechanic work.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years Margaret Carver Evitts of Greenville, son Gerald Evitts of Greenville, daughter Marcia Stewart of Beaver Dam, grandchildren Jonathan (Paula) Evitts, Lincoln (Aly) Evitts, Allison (Cody) Vance, great grandchild Ellie Evitts, sister Mildred Cox, brother Jack (Bobbie Carol) Evitts, numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Duvall’s Chapel General Baptist Church in Greenville on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at 2pm conducted by Rev. Tony Evitts assisted by Rev. Kerry Vincent and Rev. Darren Pentecost. Burial will follow in Old Jackson Cemetery in Greenville, KY. Gary’s Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.

Visitation will be from 5pm to 8pm on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at Duvall’s Chapel Church and from 11am until 2pm at the church.
