Vinyard Filmore ‘Blue’ Brooks, 93, of Greenville

Vinyard Filmore_Blue_BrooksGREENVILLE, KY., — Vinyard Filmore ‘Blue’ Brooks, 93, of Hillside took the hand of Jesus to lead him to his final journey home on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 2:59am at Owensboro Regional Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville, KY. He was born at home on Old Russellville Road, Greenville on September 10, 1925 to the late Eddie Maurice and Lennie Ellen Wilcox Brooks. He worked for many years as a mechanic for O.R. Shutt’s garage and was a lifelong member of Powderly Baptist Church where he played his guitar for many years with the choir and sang specials. His strong faith in God sustained him through the difficult times in life and always kept a smile and kind words for everyone. Mr. Brooks was an inspiration for all who were fortunate enough to cross his path. He was well known for his thumb picking and singing.  Over the years he played with many bands, on the radio, and in lots of churches.  Bluegrass gospel was his favorite music. He was so kind, caring, and loving with every breath of his being.  He loved working to keep the yard and garden beautiful. He loved flowers, especially for his lovely wife, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family. Throughout his life, and to the very end he always concerned himself with the feelings of others and sought to help everyone. He was a wonderful husband, daddy, papaw, great-papaw, uncle, and friend. He always taught his children that ‘man is only as good as his word’ and ‘let your conscience be your guide.’ He was the last surviving sibling of 8 brothers and sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sweetheart and wife of 65 years, the lovely Ethel McIntosh Brooks, a son Douglas Vinyard Books, a son-in-law Charles Keith Ryan, and 8 brothers and sisters Jack Brooks, Nora Wright, Hilda Brooks, Mary Dunn Steele, Bonnie Edwards, Karlene McIntosh, Eddie Brooks, Jr., and Ruby Nell Davis.

He is survived by his loving daughter Inett Ryan of Dunmor, 2 grandchildren C.K. ‘Charlie’ (Bethany) of Powderly, Jenette Ryan of Dunmor, 4 great grandchildren Logan and Jonathan Christie of Penrod, Westen Smalley of Dunmor, and Atlas Ryan of Powderly, several nieces and nephews.
