Lawson Murphey, 85, of Greenville

obit14vet ffffffGREENVILLE, KY., — Lawson Murphey, 85, of Greenville passed away Tuesday afternoon November 21, 2017 at 2:30pm in the Diversicare Nursing Home in Greenville after several months illness.  Lawson was born on May 15, 1932 in Muhlenberg County the son of Justus William Murphey and Alice Bell Crick Murphey. He was a UMWA coalminer, working for Caney Creek coal mines for 16 years. Lawson was an Army Veteran serving during the Korean War, and was a member and deacon of Greens Chapel General Baptist Church.

He is survived by 1 Brother W.J. Murphey of White Plains, KY, 2 Sisters Peggy (Jimmy) Swan of Owensboro, KY, Janice Spratt of Philpot, KY, 8 Nephews,             and 4 Nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers William Cleo Murphey, Elbert Jewell Murphey and Joseph Ray Murphey.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at 2pm from Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville by Reverend Jeremy Teague with burial to follow in Greens Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 26, 2017 from 12pm until service time at 2pm.
