Susie Nell Shutt McRoy

MUHLENBERG COUNTY, KY - Susie Nell Shutt McRoy, 87, of Greenville died Saturday, May 8, 2010, at 2:30 a.m. in St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville, after a sudden illness.

She was born June 6, 1922, in Muhlenberg County, the daughter of Willis Earl Shutt and Eva Mae Roberts Shutt.

She is a member of New Paradise Baptist Church in Greenville. During World War II, she worked as a riveter on airplane fuselages for General Electric and Ken-Rad. She became a farm wife and raised three children and next she worked as a nursing assistant at Golden Years Nursing Home in Calhoun, and at Muhlenberg Community Hospital before retiring in 1991, after 20 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 43 years, J.T. McRoy, in 1986; a son, John Ray McRoy in 1974; a daughter, Hilda Cooper, in 2001; three brothers, Floyd Shutt, Austin Shutt and Edd Shutt; and three sisters, Ella Mae Shutt, Annie Crawford and Suda Johnson, her twin sister.

She is survived by her daughter, Joyce (Greg) Alexander of Providence; six grandchildren, Keith McKinney, John McKinney, Karen Zguro, Beth Alexander, Lance Cooper and Savannah Cooper; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, cousins and many dear friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 11 at Gary's Funeral Home, Greenville, by the Rev. Tim Adcock and music by her nephew, Kenny Johnson, with burial to follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Powderly. Friends may call at Gary's Funeral Home, Greenville, from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
