Detroit police badge and flagBRIGHTON, MI., Allen J. Martin, Jr., 93, of Brighton, MI passed away on January 8, 2021 with his beloved wife, Bonnie, by his side. Allen was born in Kentucky and lived there until he was drafted into the army near the close of WWII.  Afterward, he moved to Detroit to find work.

In 1951, Allen became a Detroit police officer and served there for over 25 years. He and his wife Bonnie moved back to KY after retirement and later relocated to MI. Allen accepted the Lord Jesus as his Savior at a young age, so we rejoice he is now in his heavenly home with his father, Allen Sr., mother, Geneva, and brother, Eugene. He was a faithful member of a Baptist church wherever he lived and enjoyed singing in the church choir.

Allen loved taking and showing photos of his family.  If you spent much time with him, he probably pulled out his wallet and proudly displayed photos of his family. He was kind and loving, a family man “through and through”.

Survivors include his wife Bonnie, 3 daughters Marilyn Carlson (Paul) of FL., Carolyn Kruse of CO., and Evelyn Bowser (Greg) of CA., son Doug Martin (Sharon) of PA., 3 stepsons Gene Keeler (Dianna) of MI., Dean Keeler (Annette) of MI., and Doug Keeler (Sharri) of MI., with numerous grandchildren & great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held for him at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 16th at Corley Chapel Cemetery in Graham, KY on State Route 175. Gary’s Funeral Home Inc. are in charge of arrangements.

A memorial service is planned for a later date in Michigan.
